World’s Worst Web Browser Wins Its Day In Court
Opera, probably the worst web browser you can imagine, started this case in the EU against MS, claiming it was anti-competitive for them to bundle a browser in their OS. Let’s skip right over the fact that all OSs do this, that’s being conveniently over-looked in the MS-bashing.
What is important is that now MS have to not only remove IE from their next OS, but also give users a ballot screen where they can choose which browser they would like to download and use. I man come ON! Of COURSE they should offer their browser over the others – it’s their f*^king operating system! Is it just me who thinks this is bogus?
And look at this:
Look at teeny tiny insignificant Opera and THEY have started all this shit. I mean, do they think they stand a HOPE of gaining market share?
Petition To Repeal The Irish Blasphemy Law
Please sign this petition and let’s try to reverse this backward and archaic law.
It is outdated. It is making us look like a laughing stock. Most of all it is an afront to free speech.
Robin Williams. What A Nice Guy.
So I read on the IMDB that for many years Robin Williams and Christopher Reeves were close friends (having met at drama school). Williams was there through Reeves’ accident and stayed his friend throughout his last years.
The coolest part of the story was that, when Reeves’ money was dwindling, Williams paid his medical expences for him up until his death.
That’s beautiful.
Well, It’s Friday
Yes, here we are, the end of another work week. I have that Friday feeling in my soul again! I’m reading a Gene Wolfe book. I’m thinking of buying a Kindle the hard way. I just got some scratches on my car fixed. I have a serious Mrs Claus sex fantasy thing going lately. I think I am buying a new suite of furniture this weekend and that means I’ll have my own dad-chair (with recliner thank YOU!) which will sit in the optimal spot for my TV/Surround Sound system (which I hardly get to watch). What else?
It’s 8.30 and I officially start work now but have already been here thirty minutes taking calls (“I have no LAN connection” “Did you check the lights are on where the cable connects in?” “Oh, there’s no cable”) Yeah it’s one of those days in IT!
And I want a new tattoo, dammit!
Harry Potter And The Half Comatose Prince
Or he would be if he watched his own movie. This movie is almost as boring as the first one! If you’re thinking of going to see it let me save you some effort: Drako makes some faces, some girls get jealous, some people drink some potions, some people cry. Now, armed with that, go watch the last 20 minutes which is all that matters anyway.
That’s Just F*^king Wrong!
Where Beauty Truely Lies
I saw this on the televisual box tonight:
“Beauty’s in the eye of the beer holder”
It’s funny AND true!
Want A Kindle In Europe? There’s A Workaround!
So, my regular readers (both of you) will know how pissed I am you can’t get a Kindle in Europe. Well, you can, but it won’t work! I recently looked into this again to see if there were any updates on when we might get the device this side of the big pond, and found a workaround. It’s a bit longwinded, but apparently it works.
First of all, you need to buy a Kindle, obviously, and to do that you need a US shipping and billing address. So, find yourself an american friend/lover/prison penpal first of all. Then once you have the device you can log into Amazon using the credentials of the account and do the following (this is straight from an email from Amazon Customer Support):
“To download items from Amazon.com, just visit the Manage Your Kindle page at http://www.amazon.com/manageyourkindle and locate your content in the “Your orders and individual charges” section. Then click on the “Download/Send to . . .” pull-down menu and select “Computer.” After you’ve selected a Kindle book and downloaded the file to your computer, connect your Kindle to your computer using the USB cable and drag the file to the “documents” folder on your Kindle using your computer’s file browser.”
Is this a perfect solution? No. But a workable one. I am strongly thinking of trying this out. But it’s a lot of money down the shoot if there is some other unforseen issue with this. ( Like for example I didn’t tell Amazon support I was outside the US so there might be some issue downloading the content to a non-US IP address. In which case your US friend/lover/prison penpal will have to do it for you and send it to you!!)
