The Dark Tower
Ok, so i resisted this one, but here goes. I loved The Dark Tower books. I think Roland is by far and away Stephen King’s best character (though that’s not saying much from an author whose made millions out of the most crudely sterotypical characters you can imagine; fat guys are mean drunks, irish men are likewise drunks, women break their heels (though he got women characters somewhat better as the years wore on), fat women are dowdy house-wives, bad guys wear black etc…but what the hell)
Where was I?
Right…So with The Dark Tower books he created something different, a real melting pot of horror, fantasy, scifi, you name it, it’s in there. Roland must make his way across Mid-World, a ailing western-inspired landscape which is falling to ruin, in orer to find the Tower and set the world to rughts. I heartily recommend picking up a copy of all seven books. But be warned, King doesn’t do endings terrible well (and it seems they get worse as the books go by…case in point being Black House, the follow up that should never have existed to The Talisman, his finest single novel to date) and this one SUCKS! The actual very very End end is ok, but the climax leading to it really really disappoints. Don’t say i didn’t warn ya.
Lastly, check out this fan trailer made from snippets of other flicks. Pretty cool.
